Filling and moving sandbags is harder than it looks. A properly filled bag (half to two-thirds full) weighs 35 to 40 pounds, so work in teams, wear gloves, and lift with your legs. Knowing how to fill, stack, and tamp bags correctly is what makes a barrier hold. And remember: sandbags don't stop water, they redirect it. Before you build, make sure you're guiding water toward drainage, not onto your neighbor's property. Talk with the folks next door and plan your protection together.
